GOD’S REMINDER: Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself as expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal. (Philippians 3:13)
NOTE TO SELF: Despite our claims that we know God, we are surely no experts on the matter. If we were experts, we’d have this all right and would have no need for God. Our lack of knowledge keeps us reliant on Him and His wisdom.
We can be arrogant Christians sometimes, thinking we know better than the rest of the world, quoting scriptures to demonize non-believers, and convincing ourselves we don’t need to be told right from wrong.
Paul had the boldness to speak what he knew, and the humbleness to confess he didn’t know it all. He never backed down from what he believed to be true, and he believed he had the authority to speak that truth to others. Paul may not have been an expert, but he was God’s apprentice. He allowed God to teach him and show him. He was a willing vessel, and his ability to admit his weaknesses made him more valuable for God’s purpose.
Despite our delusions of grandeur, we are not the experts on life, faith and love. God is. We are merely His chosen ones to learn it, live it, and share it. That is the goal on which our eyes should be set upon.
