GOD’S REMINDER: “You let the world, which doesn’t know the first thing about living, tell you how to live.” (Ephesians 1:2 MSG)
NOTE TO SELF: While Paul was referring to the Ephesians way of living prior to knowing Christ, I think this scripture is still incredibly relevant in our lives as believers and servants of Jesus. And Paul continues:
“You filled your lungs with polluted unbelief, and then exhaled disobedience.” (v. 3)
Even as Christians today, the church is marred with unbelief and disobedience to God’s Word. Instead, the church has allowed the world to tell it how to live, what to believe, what not to believe, and how to serve God. While this may be the case, we need to be bold enough and smart enough to recognize when we are being led by the world or by God and stand up for God-living instead of world-Living.
Who tells you how to live? Who governs over your daily life? Whose rules and standards have you set up in your household? Are you a Christian yet believe the Bible to be an ancient set of guidelines that don’t pertain to our modern world and living?
When the world has our ear—has a hold on our heart—then we will surely be polluted. How can we believe FULLY in Jesus if we only believe parts of His Truth and discredit the rest? This makes us disobedient.
If we are to be the light of the world, then we need to separate ourselves from the darkness in every area of our lives!
