November 6: Spirit of Power

GOD’S REMINDER: “I did not give you a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

NOTE TO SELF: With this scripture, some translations say "fear" instead of “timidity,” but the actual translation doesn’t mean fearful or afraid, but instead to not be shy or passive. God GAVE US the gift to be bold and powerful, and to be true to God's Word (self-discipline). Read what the Amplified Version says:

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.”

Throughout the past two years, I’ve had many people criticize me for my political voice. I have been outspoken, bold, honest and true to God’s Word. But this is what God calls us to do, even if we think it’s over the top or people wont’ listen. Consider what God told Ezekiel (3:5-11).

“For you are not sent to a people of a foreign speech and of a difficult language but to the house of Israel; Not to many peoples of foreign speech and of a hard language, whose words you cannot understand. Surely, had I sent you to such people, they would have listened to you and heeded My words. But the house of Israel will not listen to you and obey you since they will not listen to Me and obey Me, for all the house of Israel are impudent and stubborn of heart. Behold, I have made your face strong and hard against their faces and your forehead strong and hard against their foreheads. Like an adamant harder than flint or a diamond point have I made your forehead; fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house. Moreover, He said to me, Son of man, all My words that I shall speak to you, receive in your heart and hear with your ears. And go, get you to the [Jewish] captives [in Babylon], to the children of your people, and speak to them and tell them, Thus says the Lord God, whether they will hear or refuse to hear.”

When we eat the Words of God and make it a part of who we are, we have no choice but to speak it. Even if the world disowns God, God has not disowned them! Even if they divorce themselves from God, God is still bound in marriage to them. When the world wants to negate the existence of God, He doesn’t stop believing in them. Even if they believe that our world is not bound by God’s Word…IT IS! Just because they think so, or say so, doesn’t make it so.

So for those of you who sat silently on the sidelines all these months, trying hard to avoid conflict, God told you to be bold! He didn’t give you a spirit of timidity or cowardice! And if you believe you’re not supposed to speak, consider this:

TO EVERYTHING there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven: A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted, A time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break down and a time to build up, A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, A time to get and a time to lose, a time to keep and a time to cast away, A time to rend and a time to sew, a time to keep silence and a time to speak, A time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

When would be a better time to speak than during an election where the moral fibers and foundation of our country are at stake? When is a better time?

Speak today with your vote. And then encourage others to vote for Godly values. To vote for life. To vote for freedom. To vote for the sanctity of marriage. To vote for REAL women’s rights. To vote for families. To vote for what’s morally right and good.

I promise you, when you begin to speak up and speak out, you will feel the Holy Spirit surround you. God gave you the power to do so, and now is the time to embrace it.
