“They had given their promise joyfully from the heart. Anticipating the best, they had sought God—and He showed up, ready to be found. God gave them peace within and without—a most peaceable kingdom!” (2 Chronicles 15:15 MSG)
Or put another way:
“And all Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn with all their heart and had sought him with their whole desire, and he was found by them, and the Lord gave them rest all around.” 2 Chronicles 15:15 ESV)
NOTE TO SELF: So many of us grudgingly surrender our lives to God. We have a self-defeating attitude that if we can’t do it, then we guess we’ll have to see if God can (*deep, heavy, unsure sigh*).
My three year old son, Tavin, is incredibly strong willed. He’s a wild horse that needs much taming. Upon trying to resolve this issue in my own way, I was often frustrated and crying at the end of the night, fighting off pounding migraines. I realized that this wasn’t just about me, and that God can do anything, including changing little boy’s behaviors…with the right nudging: prayer.
I surrendered this fiasco to God joyfully from the heart instead of a grudgingly heart. I prayed about it to God one day, anticipating God’s help (His “best”), and since then, every day, I joyfully praise Him for helping both me and my son. We now live in a most peaceable kingdom. He’s not a perfect child by any means, but I must confess, we have much more rest than two weeks ago when I struggled to do it all on my own.
Rejoice in your covenant with God, expect the best, and you will find utmost peace in your circumstances...and your life.
