“Then they bound themselves in a covenant to seek God, the God of their fathers, wholeheartedly, holding nothing back.” (2 Chronicles 15:12 MSG)
NOTE TO SELF: Covenant is a big word for a three year old, but it’s an important word that I’m trying to teach our son. When I made Bible word flashcards for him, the graphic I used for the word, “covenant", showed two hands shaking. I tell Tavin over and over, “The word, covenant, is an agreement between people. It’s a promise that won’t be broken.”
Sometimes when we say we are serving Christ, we are only giving Him bits and pieces of our lives, when the other parts of us remain in the world, bound by worldly desires. What kind of covenant would we be making to our spouse if we only gave them a small piece of our heart in our commitment to them? It would surely fall apart, as our ties to them wouldn’t be from a whole heart.
Today bind yourself in a covenant to seek God. When you shake God’s hand today, renewing your covenant with Him, hold nothing back from Him. Give Him all you are. Give Him your dreams, your fears, your sorrows, your anger, your hopes, and mostly…your whole heart.
