GOD’S REMINDER: “I am sticking with them as they start over…” Jeremiah 31:28
NOTE TO SELF: Starting over isn’t easy. It involves a lot of work and effort to get to a point of success you may have once experienced.
Many people over the last four years have lost their jobs and are desperately trying to start over. It’s not been easy to do. They either can’t find work, or the new job they got only pays half of what they earned in their previous job. They are beginning from the ground up again; from the very bottom.
The second portion of God’s Reminder says, “…building and planting.” Israel has had to begin over and over and over, more times than most of us can count. But they have and they do, and they always do it with God’s help.
It took years to rebuild the temple, but God was with them every step of the way, particularly when their enemies tried to stop them in various, devious ways. Although they had opposition, and it seemed as if their backs were up against a wall, they received favor and judgment in their honor (Ezra 4-7).
Many of us are starting over, and it’s a painful time. Our worlds are being turned upside down as we struggle to keep our heads above the water. God is a God of second chances (and then some), and each time we are being “renewed,” God promises to stick by our side as we rebuild our lives all over again.
