October 11: Correct Those Who Care

285

GOD’S REMINDER: “So don’t waste your time on a scoffer; all you’ll get for your pains is abuse. But if you correct those who care about life, that’s different—they’ll love you for it!” Proverbs 9:8-9

NOTE TO SELF: It’s political season, and everyone’s opinions are out in full swing. Over the past several years, as a devout conservative, I have found myself on the receiving end of heaps of verbal abuse and assaults. Throughout the abuse, I ignorantly tried to defend myself to people who didn’t care to listen to reason or truth. All they wanted to do was scoff, and all I got for my attempts to speak facts was excessive abuse.

Thankfully, I learned my lesson and can now recognize those who truly don’t care about issues, but instead just want to throw mud at the opposition. I don’t waste my time or energy anymore.

However, I recently met a woman who cares about her children and their future. She wasn’t very politically active or properly informed on important issues, and she sought me out and began to ask questions. She recently registered to vote and is proudly practicing her God-given right to have her voice heard.

Many people don’t care for logic or reason. They are the scoffers who live to scoff. Don’t waste your time on people who will only abuse you for your beliefs, but instead “brush the dust off your feet” and move on. However, there are many people out there who truly care about life and need your guidance. Those are the ones who have a hunger for God and may not even realize it. They are the ones who will listen and learn from you…and love you for it in the long run.
