NOTE TO SELF: As Christians, we are outnumbered, or so it seems, when it comes to public opinion. The mainstream media and Hollywood portray us in a very negative light, mocking us and ridiculing our beliefs. It’s difficult not to get discouraged or feel beaten down.
Recently a dear friend of mine relayed to me that her nine year old daughter was bullied at her school for believing in God. She came home discouraged and angry, ready to give up her innocent faith. Fortunately, her mother encouraged her not to give up and the little girl went to bed that night and spoke to God privately about the situation. The next day she told her mother that she prayed about it and decided that she wasn’t going to let anyone change her mind on what she believed to be true.
We can learn a valuable lesson from this young girl. The world wants to bully and shame us into believing we are fools for our beliefs. But we don’t base our faith on public opinion. We base our faith on facts, truth, and the reality that God transformed our lives.
PRAYER: Father, we may be taunted and ridiculed for what we believe, but we know in our spirit the Truth that You placed in our heart. Help us to remain strong in our conviction when we are up against the wall. We will always run to You when our faith is tested, and resist the urge to base our faith on pubic opinion. Amen.
JOURNAL: Write about a time when you were insulted by public opinion for your faith. What did you do, and what was the outcome?
