August 1: Drought

Watering flowers

NOTE TO SELF: If you live in the Mid-west, or anywhere that has suffered a drought this summer, you are well aware of how quickly grass dies and flowers fade in excessive heat with no water. Much like grass and flowers, our bodies need water to sustain us and keep us alive.

Christ is our Living Water that sustains us in the droughts. During those times when life feels dry and the heat is demandingly brutal. The grass will wither, the flowers will fade, but God’s Word will always be there to keep us alive! In fact, Paul tells us in Romans:

“…to set the world in the clear with Himself through the sacrifice of Jesus, finally taking care of the sins He had so patiently endured. This is not only clear, but it’s now—this is current history!” (Romans 3:25-26)

Don’t let anyone tell you the Bible is ancient history, because the Bible isn’t just a book of rules or nice stories, it is a book that lives and breathes. It’s not just a book about ancient Jewish history, but a book of current history, working out details, prophesies, and salvation. It doesn’t end at The End. The Bible is a constant new beginning.

When the drought comes on, drown yourself with the Living Water. Immerse yourself in the cool, refreshing waters of God’s Word that stands forever.

PRAYER: Father, we are dry and thirsty, longing for the deep well of living waters that only Your Word can supply. It is a steady, sustaining flow of life to keep us refreshed forever! Fill us to the brim, God. Amen.

JOURNAL: Is there something in your life that feels dead and may be in dire need of God’s refreshing Water? Use a concordance and look up the topic of your dry spot (love, marriage, death of a loved one, etc.) and jot down some scriptures and allow God to speak to you through them.
