NOTE TO SELF: We all have good intentions. I believe that the majority of mankind desires to do what is right. But most of us don’t do it in the right way.
Let’s venture out into the deep end (because this is what God is calling us to do, read Ezekiel 2:1-6 if you disagree). We won’t condone adultery, nor will we accept murder or thievery, but in our attempt to love people today, we are mistakenly nurturing other sins and trying to rewrite God’s Word on their terms. In essence, what we are doing is making it “easy” for them, and misleading those we love into the wide gate that leads to destruction (Matthew 7:13-14). When we try to do the right thing in the wrong way, we become ignorant of who God is.
Another example is when we try to minister to someone and all we end up doing is insulting them, ridiculing them, or ignoring their concerns, thus leading them further from the Truth. Our intentions are good, but we have a tendency to do it all wrong!
God tells us that our intentions aren’t good enough. We need to “guard His common good.” That means His Word. That means His Truth. That means His love and compassion. That means being obedient. That means not being wishy-washy on taboo topics. That means protecting the Word of God with your life! That means living it!
When we live it, we will do the right things in the right way…God’s way! And we should NEVER be ashamed of God’s Way, nor should we be guilted into believing God is wrong by the world’s twisted idea of “tolerance” and political correctness.
PRAYER: Father, we deeply desire to do what’s right and just before You, to bring glory and honor to Your mighty, holy Name. Help us to do the right things in the right way. Guide us, counsel us, lead us. Give us a clear understanding of the right and wrong way of approaching sensitive issues and people. Teach us to love others with kindness and compassion, while still adhering to your Truth without offense. Amen.
JOURNAL: Reflect and write about a time in your life when you thought you were doing the right thing but it turned out to be the wrong thing to do. Now write about how you can make wrongs right.
