NOTE TO SELF: Jealousy got the best of John the Baptist’s followers. Little did they realize that what they were doing wasn’t about them or their success. I confess that I get caught up in the idea of “success” and what that should look like, especially concerning my writing. We need to realize that what we do in this lifetime isn’t about us. John was “preparing the way,” and that is our job, too. God will make us succeed for a time, but it may not last forever. However, all that truly matters is that we allow God to use us for that season, and that Christ will be glorified as the outcome.
Our success depends on God’s intervention in our lives. We need Jesus’ help in every aspect of our lives, or we will fail miserably. We cannot act on our own and in our own best interests. We will not succeed at “doing good” if God is not involved calling all the shots. God hands out our gifts, we don’t make them.
PRAYER: Father, help me to see that all that I do in good deeds is in Your honor and for Your glory…not mine! Everything I do, and every success I desire according to your will, is dependent upon Your help. I can do nothing worthwhile without You. Help me keep my eyes on you, O Lord; outward, not inward. Amen.
JOURNAL: Make a bullet list of all the things you have done successfully for God’s Kingdom. When you are done with the list, in red ink, go back and write how God’s hand was in each situation, making your story successful. See how God works in you?!
