Help Me Help Others

Blurred christmas lights

MY PRAYER: God, sometimes the amount of suffering in our world is unbearable. 2 million children die of hunger each year--that's 6,000 children every day! It's a startling reality.

While many of us are suffering through our own struggles with illnesses, family traumas, unemployment, heartache, disappointments, and financial woes, we are still more blessed than most others throughout the world. While we gripe and groan about not having money for the newest phone or video game, families are struggling to keep their children alive because they are either literally dying of hunger, or suffering from malnutrition.

Father, for so long now my heart has ached to help others, but like so many today, I lack resources. I’m grateful for the brave souls who travel to places where so many are suffering and need Your help. But Lord, what can I do? How can I be the light in the world? How can I help make Your salvation global? What do You, God, require of us in this way?

REMINDER FROM GOD: I am many people’s last hope. Is it not true, that in Me, the orphan finds mercy?

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I’m setting YOU up as a light for the nations so that My salvation becomes global! I form you and use you to reconnect the people with Me. To put the land in order, to resettle families on the ruined properties. Nobody hungry! Nobody thirsty! Shade from the sun, shelter from the wind. For I AM the Compassionate One who guides them. I will comfort My people and tenderly nurse those who are beaten up and beaten down. I’m the One who’s on their side, defending their cause, rescuing the children.

What I’m interested in seeing you do is: sharing your food with the hungry, inviting the homeless poor into your homes, putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad, and being available to your own families. Do this and the lights will turn on, and your lives will turn around at once.

Break the chains of injustice. Get rid of exploitation. Free the oppressed. Cancel debts. If you are generous with the hungry and start giving yourselves to the down-and-out, your lives will begin to glow in the darkness, your shadowed lives will be bathed in sunlight. I will always show you where to go. I’ll give you a full life in the emptiest of places. You’ll be like a well-watered garden, a gurgling spring that never runs dry.

I equip you with everything you need for doing My will. I want justice—oceans of it. I want fairness—rivers of it. That’s what I want. That’s all I want.

{Hosea 14:3; Psalm 32:8; Isaiah 49:6, 8-13, 58:6-12; Hebrews 13:21; Amos 5:24}

NOTE TO SELF: There are so many people who constantly ask the question, "What's my purpose in life?" And God clearly tells us why he created us: "to use us" so that we can bring the Good News to others around the world, and heal the land and those in it. Our purpose, plain and simply, is to help others.

Here is the sad truth many people face around the world; according to The Hunger Project’s statistical report:
“Two-thirds of the world's hungry live in just 7 countries: Bangladesh, China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia and Pakistan.
  • 60 percent of the world's hungry are women.
  • 50 percent of pregnant women in developing countries lack proper maternal care, resulting in over 300,000 maternal deaths annually from childbirth.
  • 1 out of 6 infants are born with a low birth weight in developing countries.
  • A third of all childhood death in sub-Saharan Africa is caused by hunger.
  • Every five seconds, a child dies from hunger-related diseases.”

I’m so very proud to inform you that through this blog, God has used many of you to take action and be the light to the nations and make His salvation global. I’ve written about this before, but it bears repeating: Since I started blogging for Gospel for Asia back in November of 2011 (and I was informed of this information in January), fourteen children were sponsored through their Bridge of Hope program.

Every time I try to rethink what success means for this blog, God always reminds me of what success means to Him! I don’t tell this story to boast, I tell it so that I will be humbled by the love, compassion and generosity of my readers. I tell this often because I’m honored God has used this blog to help so many children!

The benefits of sponsoring a child through Gospel for Asia provides education, food, healthcare, and most importantly, the love of Christ! What I love most about the program is the ability to connect to the child you are sponsoring, through letters and photos. This isn’t something you just send your money to and you’re done. This is a personal and intimate way to do what God calls you to do for those in need, especially if you are limited in your resources.

I may not be able to give money the way I’d like to right now, but God is using me in another way. He is “using” me to spread the news, to inform you, to inspire you, and to MOVE you! I’m not proud of anything I’ve done, because it is God who is using the gift He gave me the way He sees fit. That’s what being a light to the nations means. This is how God uses us to make His salvation global. He takes what we have—what He has equipped us with—and with our willing hearts, He uses us in mighty ways we would never consider on our own.

{Please be inspired, like previous readers, to reach out to children who are in need. Visit Gospel for Asia to find out how you can help, too. Allow God to show you what talents He’s given you, and how He can help you help others.}
