Prayer in the Desert

desert

MY PRAYER: Lord, my soul is parched and my prayer-life is barren. I feel so uninspired and lost. As I sit here listening to my son suffer, I wonder how long this will go on; if we’ll ever get out of this desert-life we’ve been trapped in for so long. Where is the fruit, God, that You spoke of? I need to see your glory!

REMINDER FROM GOD: I know how you are feeling. You will soon see My glory and splendor. I will strengthen your feeble hands and steady your knees that give way. I AM saying to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear. I AM coming!” I will bring showers of blessings. The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs. Your prayers are sweet incense to Me. Raise your hands in your evening prayers. Sing praises over everything, any excuse for a song. Then you will soon laugh again; you’ll raise the roof with shouts of joy. Be thankful, always, for I AM good and My love never quits.

{Psalm 142:3; Isaiah 35:2-4, 7; Psalm 142:7; Psalm 141:2; Ephesians 5:20; Job 8:21; Psalm 118:1}

NOTE TO SELF: In our trying times, we need to remind ourselves that God is with us. He’s listening, caring, and giving us strength. The best thing we can do is reach out to God, arms raised high with songs of praise, and come to Him with a grateful heart full of thanksgiving. We will soon discover joy fall upon us. Although we may remain in the desert, our praise will bring pools of comfort. Even in the desert we can find peace and laughter. We just need to take our eyes off the circumstance and focus on God’s helping hand—even when we don’t see it.

I’m reminded of a beautiful worship song, Desert Song, that speaks truth to my spirit when I need reminding that God is God…always. In every season.

“I know I’m filled to be emptied again.”

Sometimes we need a bit of a pick-me-up. My friend and fellow blogger, Marie Wilke, founder of Spreading Joy, shared a fascinating list of 109 inspirational quotes to lift a weary spirit. I hope you’ll drop by her site and pick out a few quotes that will encourage you to keep on keeping on.

{Even in the desert we still have things to be thankful for. Make a list of 10 things you are grateful for today. Try to start each new day by creating a new list.}

  2. The honor is all mine that you are out there blessing blogs, too! Thanks for participating.

    I have a medium-size notebook that is my gratitude journal, and I FORCE myself to fill a whole page (about 15 lines worth), even if it's "the sun is shining," or "I had a great meal last night." I make sure I have plenty to be thankful for. It truly helps put things in perspective.

    Thanks for sharing!!
