Let God Move

live freely

MY PRAYER: Oh how I miss you, God. How I miss the free flow of Your Holy Spirit in the church. How I miss hearing your prophets! How I miss seeing miracles happen before my very eyes. But instead I’m confined by agendas, scripted entertainment, and 3 song playlists.

At one point, Lord, You had me step out at an “open” prayer forum. The leader hurried me along, pointing at his clipboard, informing me I was interrupting his “agenda.” God, what is happening in the church today?

REMINDER FROM GOD: You’ve experienced firsthand how I spoke with you from Heaven. But all the people experiencing the thunder and lightening, the trumpet blast and the smoking mountain, are afraid. They are pulling back and standing at a distance. They are asking others, “Speak to us and we’ll listen, but don’t have God speak to us.” And they are keeping their distance from Me.

In these last days, people will be lovers of themselves, having a form of godliness, but denying My power. They will make a show of religion. People who desire this type of spiritual junk food will catch on to anything that tickles their fancy. I care nothing for the surface—I desire the true self. Living under the law denies My Spirit to move.

My counsel is this: Live freely, animated and motivated by God's Spirit. Then you won't feed the compulsions of selfishness. Choose to be led by the Spirit and escape the erratic compulsions of a law-dominated existence. No one should be quenching the Spirit, or treating prophesies with contempt!

Don’t be fazed by these things. Stick with what you’ve learned and what you believe, sure of the integrity of your teachers. I AM the same yesterday, today and forever. My Spirit never changes!

{Exodus 20:22, 18-19; 2 Timothy 3:1-5, 4:3; 1 Chronicles 29:17; Galatians 5:16-18 MSG & NIV;  1 Thessalonians 5:19-20; 2 Timothy 3:14; Hebrews 13:8}

NOTE TO SELF: Somehow we need big screen video productions, props, skits, performers, fancy booklets, and special guests to lure us to church. A year ago, I thought that’s what I wanted too. But when I saw my father-in-law awestruck by the three ring circus-like performance, I knew most people weren’t in church anymore to see the Spirit move. They want a simple, easy, relaxed, watered down version of the Holy Spirit, not the true, triumphant, earth-trembling out pouring. They sing, “Holy Spirit come,” but when He shows up, they discretely ask Him  to leave out the back door so no one will be the wiser.

We’ve become, then, a church of celebrity antics. We have no real desire anymore to just let God move. We are restricted by a schedule of events, and God has no starring role in the play. He’s a topic to be discussed, not experienced (regardless of the church motto).

I know God still moves! I know He is eager to break free among His people, but we have become dazzled by the glitz and glamor of “church,” rather than the rawness of being swept up in God’s Presence.

When we become shackled to scripted lectures instead of the free flowing grace of God’s Spirit, we soon find ourselves bound by the law all over again. We are tied down by someone else’s agenda, ideas, discussions, rhetoric, and rules. I don’t think it’s wrong to have those things in place, but I do think it’s wrong that we don’t allow any room for God to have a say-so in it all. But that’s what is sadly happening…everywhere. No one makes room in their big productions for something big to actually happen. They don’t have time for it. They seek the spotlight in on themselves, not God!

{God still moves, but are we moving with Him, or away from Him? Why do we think we need to be entertained when we go to church? Why isn’t God enough anymore?}
