How to Change God’s Mind

“Oh, how he prayed!” 2 Kings 19:14 (MSG)
reaching out

MY PRAYER: Father, many people believe You are only one way and that You cannot be moved. They believe that their fate is sealed and whatever You have planned, good or bad, can’t be changed. If they are living in sorrow, depression, sickness, or despair, they feel it is the lot they have been given, and nothing they say or do will change Your mind about their circumstances. Lord, can we move You to change Your mind?

REMINDER FROM GOD: When Hezekiah was dying, he faced Me and prayed (oh, how he prayed!): “Remember, O God, who I am and what I’ve done! I’ve lived to please you.” And he wept. I listened to his prayers and observed his tears. Hezekiah didn’t die. I added fifteen more years to his life!

When I told Moses, “Give My anger full reign to burst into flames,” against Israel, He pleaded, “Stop Your anger. Think twice.” And I did. I decided not to punish My people for their hard-headedness. He then courageously asked me to let him on on My plans, and demanded Me to let him know where I stood with the people of Israel. I said to Moses, “All right. Just as you say.”

Abraham, My friend, even boldly interceded for Sodom when he said, "I can't believe You'd do that, kill off the good and the bad alike as if there were no differences between them. Doesn't the Judge of all the Earth judge with justice?" And for the sake of those he hoped to save, I agreed to his demands.

Come boldly to the throne of grace. Just be with Me as simply and honestly as you can manage. Don’t try to bargain with Me. Just be direct and ask for what you need. I will grant your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your petitions, because I know you well and you are special to me. Remember: Ask Me and I will certainly give it to you according to My will; however, if you ask with wrong motives, your request will not be granted.

{2 Kings 20:1-6; Exodus 32:9-14, 33:12-17; Hebrews 4:16; Matthew 6:6, 7:7; Psalm 21:4-5; Exodus 33:17; John 16:23; James 4:3}

NOTE TO SELF: Our circumstances are not set in stone. What we see today is not what will be tomorrow. We can’t just shrug our shoulders and respond the way the world does: “What will be will be.” No, we have the power (and authority) to move God to change His mind through our prayers, our cries, our honesty, and our boldness. Moses was incredibly bold to speak to God the way he did. God responded, not by punishing him or striking him down, but by honoring him and granting his requests.

If something is not right in our lives, and we know it’s not God’s will, then we need to remind God of His promises as Moses did when he said, “Don’t forget…”(Exodus 33:13); not because God forgets, but because God is moved by our relationship with Him and expects us to remember His Word.

{What holds you back from boldly reaching out to God to change His mind? Are your motives pure, or are you seeking God’s blessings for personal pleasure? God knows your heart, and He is moved by that alone.}
