No Greater Love

“His banner over me is love.”
(Song of Solomon 2:4)

MY PRAYER: Lord Jesus, when I think of Your love, I often times just...don’t get it. My experience with love hasn’t always been pleasant. My heart has been broken so many times, I stopped counting. As a small girl I was sadly abandoned by my father so he could pursue a different family. Love seemingly let me down. So to try and understand Your love is a difficult task for me. I find myself comparing Your love with the love so often given in the world that causes heartache and so much pain. Lord God, help me to understand Your love.

REMINDER FROM GOD: My love for you is a safe and permanent dwelling. I make Myself at home in your life and encircle you with My Presence all day long. My covenant with you is one based on loyal love, blessings, and increase. In fact, My love makes you more than a conqueror, and neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate you from My love. I Am love. It is not because you love me that I love you in return, but rather it is through My love for My Son that I love you, because He has made you pure in My sight. There is no greater love than the love of a Friend who will lay down His life for you. Remember: I take great delight in those with whom I love; I crown them with victory. My perfect love surpasses all understanding and casts out all fear.  My love binds compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and forgiveness in perfect unity, and endures forever.

{Deuteronomy 33:12, 7:13; Romans 8:37-38; John 15:13; Psalm 149:4; 1 John 4:10, 18; Colossians 3:13-14; Psalm 118:2}

NOTE TO SELF: God’s love is so enormous and strong that it simply cannot be comprehended on a human level. His love gives me power, authority, and strength, and it’s composed of blessings, favor, and safety. Even when I don’t feel God’s love, I know that nothing can separate me from it. Jesus loved me so much that He died for me so that I can stand in God’s perfect love without fear. Unlike how the world loves—based on who I am, what I do, and how I behave—God’s love is not decided by those factors, but rather on what Jesus did for me on the cross, which has crowned me with victory!

{You’ve probably been let down by love, so how can you disassociate the world’s meaning of love compared to God’s "perfect" love? What does love feel and look like for you? Try to visualize God’s pure delight in you as He places a crown of victory on your head. How does that make you feel?}
