For Generations to Come

MY PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I often find myself staring at my two year old son, and my heart aches with fear that he will one day know the pain of poverty like we currently do. I diligently cry out to you daily with heartfelt pangs that You would keep him from ever knowing this type of suffering. I want so badly for him to have a better life than I ever had. I want him to follow his dreams and be successful. I want him to know You and follow You with his whole heart. My older son, unfortunately, has fallen into the same old trappings in life that I did: heartbreak, poverty, and a feeling of hopelessness that circumstances will never change. God, I pray that you bless both my sons. That Your hand will be with them always, and You will give them a better life than I ever had!
REMINDER FROM GOD: It is not with you alone that I am made a covenant. I affirm that your children are Mine as I promised and swore by oath. I establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you. I will cleanse your heart and the hearts of your descendants. Secret things belong to Me, but those things that I reveal to you belong to you and your descendants forever! Be careful to revere Me. Pay attention and be careful to do this so that it may go well with you and your children. My Word must be kept in your mind, and you must teach them to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, as you lie down, and as you get up. All your children will be followers of the Lord, and your children will enjoy great prosperity.

{See Deuteronomy 29:13-14; Genesis 26:3; Deuteronomy 30:6; Deuteronomy 29:29; Deuteronomy 6:2-3, 6-7; Isaiah 54:13}
NOTE TO SELF: God promised the wilderness Israelites that their children would receive better things than their ancestors. This created a long lasting, loving covenant of redemption and compassion to be passed down from generation to generation. God used those forty years to teach them His ways so they would in turn teach their children. By doing so, it was their children who entered the Promised Land. They were prepared. They had God’s Word deep in their hearts and souls. They didn’t know that bondage mentality…only God’s promises.

My two year old son, Tavin, will never have to know bondage mentality if I allow God to take me through the wilderness and teach me His ways. I have to rethink my future and focus on God’s promises so my sons will know them too. Once that happens, and I’m fully prepared for what God has in store for me, God can then move ME out of the wilderness, and Tavin will never remember the years of bondage we suffered. As I enter the Promised Land, my older son, Josh, will be able to see how God moved in our lives and that He is our Redeemer and Salvation. God made a covenant with me, and He promises that it is not for me alone, but also with my children.
{When we keep God’s Word and promises at the forefront of our mind and teaching them to our children, they will enjoy great prosperity! Are you teaching your children God’s Word? What are fun ways you can incorporate God’s promises in your family’s everyday life?}
