Hold On for Dear Life

“Attend to my cry; give ear to my prayer” (Psalm 17:1)

My Prayer: Somewhere along the way I lost my grip. I let go of You and tried to take care of myself, believing I knew better. I thought I knew You, but I don’t…not really. I think that I do, but I know I make You too small in my mind. At times I’ve even “humanized” You, which makes you powerless and no better than the earthly people who always seem to let me down. And I then focus on that; and that is who You become to me. I then wonder if anyone cares, including You. I often feel as if You can’t be found when I’m in desperate need.

Reminder from God: If you hold onto Me for dear life, I’ll give you the best of care. Know Me. Trust Me. Call Me, and I’ll answer. I will be at your side in bad times; I will rescue you. (Psalm 91:11, 14-16 MSG)

Note to Self: God is mighty and powerful. He set the universe in motion, and look at how smoothly that runs. It is constant, just like God. Nothing shakes Him. Nothing changes Him.

God is always at my side, and He promises to be next to me particularly in the bad times. However, I am the one who tends to let go of God, not the other way around.

I need to know Him—truly know Him. Fully grasp His character; dig deeper into Who He is through His Word. I can then start to trust Him because He provides real promises that remain to be faithfully true from the beginning of time and throughout eternity.

{What does trusting God mean? How does it differ from trusting mankind? When you have trouble trusting God, what gets you through?}
