Scripture to reflect upon for Truth Tuesday: John 3:6 (The Message)
“When you look at a baby, it’s just that: a body you can look at and touch. But the person who takes shape within is formed by something you can’t see and touch—the Spirit—and becomes a living spirit.”
Who—or what—is being formed within your body?
As you can see, the scripture is in red, which means these were the words of Jesus. He was speaking to the Pharisee, Nicodemus, who was eager to learn what it meant to be “born again.”
Nicodemus was so confused. “Surely you can’t climb back into your mother’s womb and be reborn!” he exclaimed. Some of us find that to be a rather nice idea, especially if we could take the knowledge of what we know today with us and start all over again. Jesus said this was possible, not through our mother again, but instead this time through the Ultimate Creator of Life, God Himself.
I love this notion of being born again, because quite honestly I had no idea what it meant either…until it happened to me! Imagine my surprise when I read this scripture for the first time after it happened.
Submitting to Jesus, confessing my sins, renouncing the enemy in my life, and then allowing the Holy Spirit to do what it needed to do was the beginning of my transition back through the eternal birth canal. I will never in my life forget what it felt like, and because of this experience, there is no way anyone can ever convince me there isn’t a God, or that Jesus isn’t our Savior. It was entirely supernatural.
The Spirit that was formed within was made new and whole inside of me. A sense of “wellness” in my soul was overwhelming and peaceful. The immense joy I felt was something I never even knew possible! I saw things differently: crisp, clear, ALIVE! I heard things differently: secret things, angelic things, and heavenly whispers. Things that once defined my life were instantly gone: swearing, drinking, promiscuity, addictions, and the pain of my past decisions that I had carried with me my whole life. Seriously…gone! I felt relieved, renewed, and rejuvenated. I knew my life would never be the same, and I was eternally grateful for that. I never knew before that moment what I had been missing. I had no clue, because no one told me it was possible.
Again, imagine my surprise reading this scripture about being born again shortly after this had all taken place in my very own life.
NOTE TO SELF: Following Jesus isn’t a practice or a ritual. It is a way of life that transforms you into a whole new wonderful creature. Is the Holy Spirit allowed to form within you? If not, ask Jesus to do a mighty work in you, too! Truth is you have nothing to lose.
