Scripture to reflect upon for Manic Monday: Psalm 91:14-15
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledged my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.”
Why will God honor you, deliver you, be with you, answer you, protect you and rescue you? Because…you love Him, acknowledge Him, and call upon Him.
Today’s scripture gives us basic life instructions and the promises of God to get us through tough times when we abide by those guidelines:
- All you need to do is love Him: What does that mean to “love” God? When we love something, we tend to put it high on the list of things we pay attention to. Love football? You probably spend time watching it all day on Sunday, and watch the highlights on ESPN, or participate in a Fantasy Football League. You probably even check the stats throughout the week, or watch college football to catch the next best thing for the NFL. Loving God means putting Him first, above all other things.
- All you need to do is acknowledge that He is God: Anyone can acknowledge that God is God, but you’ll notice you need to love Him, too. Do you believe God created us, or the earth, or the universe? Acknowledging God means living a Godly life because you are always aware that He is there.
- All you have to do is call upon God: Sometimes it’s as easy as saying, “Please God…” Other times it can be as complex as having a long heart-to-heart with God.
Those are the simple things. The difficult and tough times we experience in life are then taken care of if we just do those three simple things. They are done by God, Himself. God does the work. Notice the scripture doesn’t say, “And then I will give him the power to rescue himself, deliver himself and have the attitude to honor himself.”
God honors you, and He does so by meeting your essentials in life:
§ To be rescued in difficult times
§ To answer you when you reach out to Him
§ To protect you when you acknowledge He is God Almighty and can do anything and everything
§ To be with you so you are not alone during hard times
Those are the basics. Those are the most important things we need in life, because we will always face difficult, troubled, hard times. What a comfort in knowing that anytime we face those moments in life, God will be there to get us through.
NOTE TO SELF: You may not feel it. You may not know what to do. However, your part is easy: love, acknowledge and call upon God. He will do the rest.
