Scripture to reflect upon for Wisdom Wednesday: Proverbs 3:7
Do not be wise in your own eyes…
I know that this scripture pretty much speaks for itself, but I think it bears reminding that too many times we are stuck in the natural way of thinking. When we restrict ourselves to merely the natural, we will always feel defeated, restless and doubtful.
I know from my own experiences that when I depend on myself for wisdom, I am projecting a lack of trust in God. I lean on the ways of the world and man and not on the Creator of heaven and earth and everything in it!
If you look closely, you can’t help but notice that those who depend wholly on their own wisdom and intelligence are the very ones who refuse to believe in God. They have become wise in their own eyes. They don’t need to believe in God, because they only believe in themselves and the things they can see or explain, but most of the time the things that are explained are continuously unexplained and explained again in an entirely different way.
Education, the way students are taught, and the subjects they are taught, are always changing, always evolving, because no one seems to know much of anything for sure, but yet so many people rely on this misinformation as the absolute truth. God never changes. His Word never changes. His wisdom is always the same. It is consistent. It is trustworthy. It is fact. Facts don’t change, but speculation and ideologies do because they are always based solely on thoughts of others.
Let’s take the countless situations of how a particular food item is incredibly good for you one year, but then a year or two later, researchers discover that their very own “wisdom” was wrong, and then warn you against the food they once begged you to eat. That is the way of the world. They are constantly confusing you, confusing the message, and in turn make you change your mind over and over and over. When we do this—rely on the world for wisdom—we are never quite sure what to believe in anymore, so we just don’t believe in anything but ourselves.
When we depend only on ourselves and believe any thought or idea that comes our way through the world, it is all too easy to denounce God in every area of our lives without even realizing it. When we start calling theories and ideas facts, we are in for a sad awakening, because man’s ideas without God’s wisdom are faulty and always undependable.
NOTE TO SELF: God is. It’s as simple as that. He never changes, He never will. Rely solely on God’s wisdom and you will succeed in everything you do.
