Scripture to reflect upon: John 8:32 & 36“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free…so if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
Yesterday I posted a 4th of July blog about how we are taking God completely out of the picture, but today I want to focus on something that came to me after giving it some deeper thought.
While on facebook yesterday, one of my “friends” posted an article from CNN.com, “Why We Are Not a Christian Nation” (http://bit.ly/lwxezS). I began to think about all the things I was taught in grade school and high school, but the author insisted I was being brainwashed by a “Sunday School” version of history rewritten by Republicans/conservatives. (I could go on and on about how liberals are rewriting history to make sure we don’t talk about God’s influence on this country, too, but I won’t.) So I pondered on that note…
Just by insisting that we are not a “Christian nation” does not diminish the fact that God is real!
Atheists, Muslims, Buddhists, the government—what have you—can never take away the freedom Christ gave me. They can strip me of my rights to say, “Merry Christmas,” or to pray in public, but they can never take away the freedom that God promised me through Christ Jesus’ death and resurrection. “Because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2). Thanks to Jesus, I have a Spirit of life and am no longer subjected to the ways of the sinful world and death.
You see the world and those who slop around in it, are living in inevitable death. When they refuse the Truth, they refuse Life and real freedom. Even those who live in controlled countries and have been saved, they are free…free indeed. They may be bound by the laws of man, but never are they tied to them forever. Freedom reigns in the hearts of believers. Freedom rules in their minds. That freedom can never be taken away by anyone or anything.
You can try to steal the truth from our children, and even from history. You can strip me bare of my rights as a human. But never in a million years can you take what God has given me. “It is freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1).
NOTE TO SELF: My freedom through Christ is freedom of bondage of this world. I am acutely aware of the world’s ignorance to the facts, despite how diligent they are in fabricating them to suit their agenda. I am free from lies and deception. Jesus set me free from all of that, so I may live in the absolute Truth, and the absolute Truth I shall live in for eternity!
