Birds of Prey

Scripture to reflect upon: Genesis 15:11
Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.

God asked Abraham to bring very specific animals to the altar for sacrifice and he complied. As Abraham was making his sacrifice to God, birds of prey were trying to come and take it from him, but he “drove them away.” What are you sacrificing to God that “birds of prey” are trying to steal from you?

Abraham teaches us in this scripture to resist the birds of prey. He was not about to let birds take what was his, and what was God’s. We are called to be strong and fight for what God wants to give us…what is ours. Abraham wasn’t going to let anything take his blessing.

When God wants to bless us, the first thing that comes at us are the birds of prey: the negative thoughts, the doubt, the confusion, the fear, the trials and tribulations. When you are making efforts to do what God has asked you to do, birds of prey will come and attack you and try to rob you of your sacrifice, so to speak.

Who or what are your birds of prey today, trying to steal your joy, your strength, your gifts, your word?

NOTE TO SELF: The enemy can use anything and anyone, so beware of birds of prey and be strong like Abraham and drive them away!
