[Jesus] said, “Keep your eyes open as you enter the city. A man carrying a water jug will meet you. Follow him home. Then speak with the owner of the house: The Teacher wants to know, ‘Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?’ He will show you a spacious second-story room, swept and ready. Prepare the meal there.”
Keep your eyes open. Jesus has prepared the way for you. All you need to do is follow His directions.
It was that simple. Jesus could have said, “Look for a guy in the city with a jug and he’ll show you where to go.” And that could have been that. But notice Jesus didn’t just stop at telling the disciples to find the guy carrying the water jug. He told them to follow him and then gave them the exact words to say to the owner of the house. But He didn’t stop there, either! He goes on to describe the exact room where the meal would be held and that it would be “swept and ready.”
Why do you think Jesus needed to give his disciples such explicit details?
Even as Disciples of Christ, we sometimes need to be told exactly how to do something, where to go, and what to expect. I’m not going to lie. Sometimes I can be quite dense. Sometimes God tells me something and I don’t know why. I try not to question it. But God is in the details of everything we do and everywhere we go. He is preparing our steps days—weeks, months, even years—in advance.
God sees our future. He knows who we’ll talk to, what will be said, and what we’ll expect to see. God doesn’t always tell us every detail, but there are times when He will give us explicit details to make sure we are fully armored and ready for battle.
God recently revealed something quite painful about my future that I wasn’t all too happy to hear. By doing so, He created a bond with me and now I trust Him more than I ever have. I may not have gotten a great word, but for some crazy reason when God told me the details, I felt confident that when it happens I will be fully prepared and know what lies ahead of me. God was in the details and He proved Himself to be trustworthy to someone who’s not so very trusting.
Listen closely to the details God is trying to provide to you. He never tells you anything to hurt you…but always to prepare you for the journey ahead.
NOTE TO SELF: It’s ready. And all you have to do is walk in confidence because you have been fully prepared by God Almighty!
